Artist Floor Talks and Kauae Tehe/Chin Moko Demonstration

Enjoy talks from several artists showing works in the Ngā māreikura a Matariki, whakaniko ki Ngāti Awa exhibition, including Dame Robin White, Maria Elliot and Ronn Kupa. 

This is also a chance to witness a very special moko live illustration by Ronn Kupa, where a kaiwhiwhi (supported by her whānau) will receive her kauae tehe in the gallery.

About the Whakatāne Museum

The Whakatāne Museum is located in the Eastern Bay of Plenty and serves the Whakatāne District and the Mataatua rohē. The museum operates over two premises.

Museum Background

The origins of the museum date to 1933, with the formation of the Bay of Plenty Māori and Historical Research Society.
