The Kelliher Art Trust collection comprises just over 100 paintings, the majority of which are New Zealand landscapes, that won prizes or awards in the Kelliher Art Competition, held most years between 1956 and 1977.

In Kutarere Sunrise, New Zealand mixed media artist Lauren Lysaght encourages audiences to take the hand of her childhood self and brings them with her into the butcher shop once owned by her dad, Nelson Lysaght.

The landscapes Stanbridge depicts are on one hand otherworldly, almost metaphysical, and yet on the other, they are comforting - like a choir singing or a waiata calling us. They could be situated far up a hillside, on a nearby beach, or in a place you never knew existed. 

Melanie Yazzie on White Island / Whakaari

Volcanic Artist in Residence Melanie Yazzie invites our local community to join her for an informal artist talk and creative forum at Te Kōputu on Thursday. Melanie will offer insights into her arts-practice, share her works in progress since arriving in the Eastern Bay, and talk about her experiences with the people and places of Whakatāne.
