Whakatāne Community Board Gallery
2014 Molly Morpeth Canaday 3D winner Ben Pearce has created a new body of sculptural works for the Whakatāne Community Board Gallery.
To Remember a Tree is an exhibition about new life; through it is cast in a deeply contrasting chiaroscuro of possibilities. The exhibition represents a meeting point of several forces—nature, humanity, and technology—activated in artworks that leverage off memory and love.
Bronze, nut, and other materials indicate how the organic can be combined with the inorganic, while compression, robotics and re-enfranchised timber, are worked together…. to remember a tree.
Pearce is based in the Hawkes Bay and assistant to one of New Zealand’s most renowned furniture designers, David Trubridge.
New Zealand artist Ben Pearce gives an insight into his studio practice and the current motivation behind his artworks.
