View Points is an exhibition of new photographs by members of the Whakatāne Camera Club, showcasing a strong depth of talent and diverse image-making in our community. These pictures are influenced by everyday scenes from our daily lives. They reveal New Zealand through wondrous landscapes and interesting people. They speak to technical and artistic skills, and the Club’s ongoing mission to educate and enhance local talent.

There is always something to see and learn when we open our eyes to imagination and look deeper into the world. When taken as a whole, View Point is an exhibition that reiterates the importance of photography to record life, to reveal people and place, to value an exact moment of time that will never be repeated again. Moments from and of our lives…

About Whakatāne Camera Club

The Whakatāne and District Camera Club got its start after the Second World War, using cameras brought back by ex-servicemen. Interest in photography grew, and it was officially registered as an Incorporated Society in 1956. Around the same time, thanks to the donation of land and materials by Doctor A.W. Cole, a clubroom was built to serve Whakatāne & District Camera Club, the Philatelic Society, The Car Club, and The Cine Club. Fletcher Cole Hall is located opposite Barry Avenue on McGarvey Road and remains the clubrooms for our organisation as well as the Philatelic Society.

Over the decades, photography has evolved from darkroom, enlargers, and developing tanks to modern-day digital images processed on computers and printed on demand. As an art form, photography remains a challenging medium with opportunities for creativity, experimentation, and the preservation of a unique moment in time.

The Whakatāne Camera Club welcomes enquiries from photographers of all levels, and members freely share a wealth of photographic knowledge. We exist to promote photography and to improve the photographic skills of members in a friendly and supportive environment. Join us on the first Monday of each month at Fletcher Cole Hall, 15 McGarvey Road in Whakatāne. Learn more at our Facebook page or website:
