Waitangi, Why Tangi, Why we Tangi

Date:

Saturday, 13 August 2022 - 11:00am to Sunday, 16 October 2022 - 2:00pm

Waitangi, Why Tangi, Why we Tangi is a group exhibition that features works that respond to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. The works critique the contrasts and dualities this documents has created and offers provocation for viewers to ponder.

Why tangi?
We tangi for our stolen whēnua, tikanga & whakapapa.
Why tangi?
We tangi for our stolen connections, to our taiao, our babies & our Māori world.
Why tangi?
We tangi because we know what was stolen from us and we are here to reclaim it alongside our tūpuna.
Why tangi?
We tangi because it is a healthy way to express ourselves.
Why tangi?
We tangi because it shows our unconditional love for something that was taken from us.
Why tangi?
We tangi because Ranginui showed us how.
