In this podcast we talk with Karl Leonard about his weaving journey and the works shown in Hao Male Maori Weaving exhibition.

Co-curated by Mark Sykes (Ngāti Rangitihi, Ngāti Porou) and Karl Chitham (Ngā Puhi, Te Uriroroi), this exhibition presents the work of a group of kairaranga tane (male weavers) making work for whānau (family), friends and collectors in Aotearoa and further afield.

The Whakatāne Museum is located in the Eastern Bay of Plenty and serves the Whakatāne District and the Mataatua rohē. The museum operates over two premises.

Museum Background

The origins of the museum date to 1933, with the formation of the Bay of Plenty Māori and Historical Research Society.
