“Everything flows and nothing abides; you cannot step twice into the same river.”

What is time? Does it flow, pass, or exist in layers?
In Views in Time, eight Whakatāne textile artists from the Whakatāne Quilters Collective delve into these questions through their individual artistic perspectives. Each draws from their distinct personal experiences, interpreting the concept of time, and capturing its dynamic nature and also the fluidity between past, present, and future. Their works invite viewers to contemplate time not as a static entity, but as a continuum of shifting moments and relationships. The exhibition challenges our perceptions and expands our understanding of existence within this temporal flow.
Textile art has historically been a powerful medium for female expression and empowerment. This exhibition highlights how textile art continues to enrich a community of artists, each reflecting on and capturing their unique and shared perspectives on Views in Time.
